How to talk about intimacy with your partner
Good intimate communication is less about finding perfect words and more about creating enough safety for both people to be honest.
Choose the moment
Have the conversation when neither person is rushed, angry or already in the middle of sexual activity. That makes it easier to listen rather than react.
Use preferences, not verdicts
Describe what you enjoy, what you would like more of, and what you do not want. Avoid presenting one person's preferences as universal rules.
Make consent and boundaries explicit
Enthusiasm matters. A partner can change their mind, and no technique or relationship goal overrides consent.
Keep it collaborative
Try questions such as “What helps you feel close?” and “Is there anything you'd like us to do differently?” Then continue with talking about preferences or discussing boundaries.
